The ichinomiya of this province is not settled
2 shrines here are treated as the ichinomiya of Sagami Province. Shrines that compete for the same title are called ronsha (論社). We list them all rather than picking one, and say what each claim rests on.

What the Japanese sources say
Samukawa Jinja (寒川神社) and Tsurugaoka Hachimangu (鶴岡八幡宮) are both named as the ichinomiya of Sagami, but Tsurugaoka Hachimangu does not claim the title itself. Neither its own website nor the Kanagawa Prefecture Tourist Association’s description of it contains the words “ichinomiya of Sagami Province”; what they set out goes no further than its history as the tutelary shrine of the Minamoto clan.
For Samukawa Jinja, the Kanagawa Prefectural Shrine Agency names the documents the claim rests on: a record in the Sōkoku Fudoki (総国風土記) of offerings made in the reign of Emperor Yūryaku; its designation in the Engishiki (a law code completed in 927 that lists official shrines) as “the only great shrine in Sagami Province to receive provincial offerings” and its ranking as a myōjin taisha, a high class of shrine in that code; and offerings and imperial rites by successive emperors.
Of the 26 provinces this site examined, only a very few, this one among them, had an official source that named the documents behind the ichinomiya claim.
Written from Japanese sources, each quoted. The Japanese page has the same discussion with the original wording.

Where this province is today
The ichinomiya of Sagami Province now stand in Kanagawa. Provinces and prefectures do not line up — a province can be split across several prefectures, and a prefecture can hold several provinces.
