1. Personal information

We do not collect personal information, except when you write to us. There are no accounts and no forms asking for your name, address or telephone number.

If you email us, your address and message are used only to reply and to keep a record of the correction. They are not passed to anyone else.

2. What your browser stores

The only thing this site stores in your browser is your text-size setting (standard, large, extra large). It stays in your own browser and is never sent to our server. Clearing your browser's site data deletes it.

Only if you tick “Also show the drive from where I am” in the day-route planner does the site use your browser's location, and only to work out the distance to the first shrine. Your location is not saved and is not sent to us or anyone else. Your browser asks for permission first, and the planner works the same if you decline.

3. Analytics

We use Google Analytics (Google LLC) to understand how the site is used. It sets cookies and collects data anonymously; it does not identify you. See Google's policies. Disabling cookies prevents this collection.

4. Advertising

We may display third-party advertising, including Google AdSense. Advertising providers may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can turn off personalised advertising in Google's ad settings, and opt out of other providers at aboutads.info.

5. Affiliate links

This site takes part in affiliate programmes, including accommodation and car rental booking services. On the English pages this is A8.net (FAN Communications, Inc.), for car rental bookings with Tabirai. We may receive a commission if you book through a link here. This costs you nothing extra, and it never affects which shrines we list or the order they appear in. Bookings are governed by the terms and privacy policies of the service you book with.

6. External services

Maps use OpenStreetMap. Directions and street-level imagery link out to Google Maps and Apple Maps. Once you follow those links, the provider's own policies apply.

7. Server logs

Our host records ordinary access logs — IP address, time, page, browser — for operations and fault-finding. They are not used to identify individuals.

8. Accuracy

Details are taken from each shrine's own sources, but hours, car parks and events change. We do not warrant completeness or accuracy, and cannot accept responsibility for losses arising from use of this information. Check the shrine's own notice before you travel.
