Kozuke Province Ichinomiya

Ichinomiya Nukisaki Jinja

一之宮貫前神社

Ichinomiya Nukisaki Jinja is the ichinomiya — the leading shrine — of the former Kozuke Province, in present-day Gunma. We could not confirm whether it has a car park. Opening hours end at 16:30 (charms and goshuin). Without a car, a local tourism body gives 1 route from a station (on foot), one of them a walk of 10 min; the station names are listed below. We found 2 entries for the shrine in Japan’s national database of designated cultural properties. The nearest other ichinomiya is Chichibu Jinja, 35 km to the south-east in a straight line.

Getting there

群馬県富岡市一ノ宮1535

The address is given in Japanese on purpose. Show it to a taxi driver, or copy it into a car navigation system — an English transliteration will not be recognised.

Before you drive here

There is a notice about reaching this shrine by car — it may concern road closures at New Year, vehicle size limits, which way you can turn into the car park, or satellite navigation giving the wrong place. The Japanese text reads:

年末年始(二年参り・初詣)は「貫前神社周辺では、交通規制が敷かれます」(富岡市観光公式)。同時期は駐車場の場所も大幅に変更されるため、当日の公式案内図の確認が必要。

Parking

We could not confirm whether it has a car park.

The note above is in Japanese; it usually records dates when the car park is closed, and the fee.

History in brief

Founding
The shrine is said to have enshrined Futsunushi no Kami and Hime Okami in 531, the first year of Emperor Ankan.
Buildings
The main hall, worship hall and gate were rebuilt in 1635 by the third shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu and extensively repaired under the fifth shogun Tsunayoshi.

Summarised from a local tourism body (一之宮貫前神社(富岡市観光ホームページ), checked 2026-10-08). Traditions are given as the shrine tells them, not as established history.

Enshrined deities

The Tomioka City tourism site gives the deities as Futsunushi-no-Kami and Hime-Ōkami, a goddess of farming and weaving, and says they were enshrined in the first year of Emperor Ankan (531).

Nearest ichinomiya

The closest is Chichibu Jinja, about 35 km to the south-east in a straight line, the ichinomiya of Chichibu Province. After that come Sengen Jinja (69 km south) and Suwa Taisha Kamisha Maemiya (71 km south-west).

Straight-line distances between the shrines, not road distances. Across mountains or water, the drive is much longer.
