What the Japanese sources say
Four shrines are treated as the ichinomiya, the shrine ranked first in the province: Yakurahime Jinja (八倉比売神社), Kami Ichinomiya Oawa Jinja (上一宮大粟神社), Ichinomiya Jinja (一宮神社) and Oasahiko Jinja (大麻比古神社). Of these, Oasahiko Jinja is the only one whose standing as ichinomiya could be confirmed in a public source.
Oasahiko Jinja’s own website carries the words “Awa no Kuni Ichinomiya”, and the Naruto Uzushio Tourism Association also calls it “the ichinomiya of Awa Province”.
For the other three, the word “ichinomiya” appears neither on Tokushima Prefecture’s tourism information site nor in Kamiyama Town’s description. Public sources do confirm, however, that Kami Ichinomiya Oawa Jinja and Ichinomiya Jinja both enshrine Ōgetsuhime no Mikoto (Ōawahime), the same deity line. Their names, too, form a pair: “Kami Ichinomiya” and “Ichinomiya”.
No primary source describing the relationship between the two shrines — a division of the deity, a relocation, or a split — could be found.
Written from Japanese sources, each quoted. The Japanese page has the same discussion with the original wording.
